HockeyNightinChiPsi

Missing our Chi Psi College Pick’em now that football season is over? You’re in luck because we’re bringing it back for hockey season with our Hockey Night in Chi Psi series! Each week Justin Zolot and James Holman will be joined by a surprise guest to give their picks for the week’s top hockey face-offs.

This week’s surprise guest is former Omega Delta #1 Connor Leipold ’14. Check out this week’s games to watch and our picks below:

PennState_Minnesota

Penn State University at #2 University of Minnesota

Zolot Justin Zolot: I had a wicked awesome time at Alpha Nu last weekend for Midwest Rowe Regional Leadership Conference last weekend, and the brothers loved talking cawwlege hawwkey. The Gophers are coming off a bye weekend, and Penn State split with Michigan. Expect the Gophers bury those dusters from Pennsylvania. Minnesota 4 – Penn State 1
James James Holman: Nu Delta versus Nu how about that one! The Big Ten’s newest program has had a rough go of it with their first year of playing big boy college hockey. I don’t see them threatening Minnesota at all this weekend. Gophers take it 4-1.
Connor Connor Leipold: Easy pick here.  The Nittany Lion’s are going to have a tough time stopping Minnesota’s star forward Sam Warning (30 Pts, 11 G, 19 A) who’s been able to tally up an impressive 30 points in 30 games this season.  I’m going with the State of Hockey for this matchup. Minnesota 5 – Penn State 1.

OSU_Michigan

Ohio State University at #13 University of Michigan

Zolot Justin ZolotAfter snapping a four-game losing streak on Saturday night with a 5-2 win against Penn State, #13 Michigan takes on Ohio State for the first time in three months. The Wolverines have won six straight games against the Buckeyes, sweeping the first weekend series against Ohio State this season on Nov. 29 (4-3 OT at Yost Ice Arena) and Dec. 2 (5-4, at Value City Arena). Despite their success this season, Michigan will have the tall task of defending Ryan Dzingel who leads the Big Ten with 38 points (17 goals, 21 assists) on the season. The Buckeyes have three of the conference’s top eight scorers in Dzingel, Max McCormick, and Tanner Fritz. Michigan is 8-2-2 at home, and I expect them to continue their dominance in front of a jam-packed Yost Ice Arena. Michigan takes the cake 3-2
 James James Holman: O-H I-O. OSU-4 TSUN(The School Up North)- 1.

Connor Connor Leipold: Home ice advantage will play a key role in this game for Michigan especially since the Buckeyes can’t seem to win games on the road (2-6-2).  This is going to be a close Big Ten matchup, but I have Alpha Epsilon coming through with the win. Michigan 3 – Ohio State 2.

Union_Yale

#3 Union College at #15 Yale University

Zolot Justin Zolot: Union, which clinched the ECAC Regular Season Championship last weekend is #2 in the nation in offense, swept Clarkson and St. Lawrence by scoring 11 goals combined. Its offense continues to embarrass opponents and is led by Daniels, Carr, and Ciampini, who have a combined 31 goals and 64 points. On the other hand, Yale is trying to earn a bye next week for the first round of the ECAC Tournament while grabbing credentials for the NCAA Tournament selection committee. Expect Union to take Eli to the pound. Dutchmen win 4-2.
James James HolmanUnion College has been pretty freaking unbelievably wicked awesome this year at hockey. I picked against them earlier but won’t make the same mistake. Yale puts up a good fight, but loses at home due to some tough midterms. Union-3 Yale-2

Connor Connor Leipold: This is going to be a great Chi Psi matchup on Friday!  Union is coming in on a hot streak with winning 7 of their last 10 games and Yale will have to utilize their home ice advantage.  In the end, I’m going with Zolot’s Alpha Pi Union College. Union College 3 – Yale 1.

11.09.09.sports.mhockey

Dartmouth College at #11 Cornell University

Zolot Justin Zolot: We’re..gonna..beat..the..hell..outta..you..Rough em up..Rough em up..GO C U ! Big Red takes down the Big Green 3-1

James James HolmanCornell has been skating well and is playing at home. Cornell-3 Dartmouth-0

Connor Connor Leipold: This colorful (Big Red vs. Big Green) Ive League matchup is going to be a close one, but even with Cornell’s mediocre home record (5-3-2) I’m picking the Big Red to top Dartmouth. Cornell 3 – Dartmouth 1.

Bowdoin Mens Hockey vs Middlebury

Bowdoin College at Middlebury College

Zolot Justin Zolot: Middlebury has been screwing up my picks for the past two weeks. They need to lose a game. Polar Bear 2 – Middlebury 0.
James James HolmanI’ve already picked against Middlebury twice before and each time they proved me wrong. Not happening again. Middlebury-3 Bowdoin-2
Connor Connor Leipold: These teams are very close in the standings with Middlebury having 20 points in the conference and Bowdoin right behind them with 19 points.  In the end, Middlebury’s defense will be no match for the Polar Bears high scoring offense.  I’m taking Bowdoin over Middlebury. Bowdoin 4 – Middlebury 2
