Chi Psi College Pick’em – Week 4

2009 - ESPN College GameDay

This year we’ve launched the first-ever Chi Psi College Pick’em blog series!

Each Tuesday afternoon, we’ll post on Facebook which three games we’re watching that weekend, and on Thursday we’ll announce here the picks from our three “experts” (Sam Bessey, Justin Froeber and Jon Moore) and one surprise guest. This week’s surprise guest is Executive Council member and Annual Fund Chairman Steve Rickmeier, EΔ ’69.

Check out this week’s games to watch and our picks below:

Rutgers

Arkansas vs. Rutgers
Facebook fan favorite to win: Arkansas

FroeberHead Justin Froeber: The Scarlet Knights have been impressive in head coach Kyle Flood’s first two seasons and after a heartbreaking loss in the season opener to Fresno State have recovered nicely. While the Razorbacks come into the season undefeated, I think they have yet to be tested. Rutgers wins at home.
SamHead Sam Bessey: Bielema the Hutt will not have a good trip east.  The Banks of the Old Raritan will look more like a depression in the sands of the desert planet Tatooine to him.  The Scarlett Knights aka the Fighting Sarlacci beat Arkansas, who, by the way, have the fourth dumbest fan base in America.
JonHead Jon Moore: I know that Rutgers won on the road in Fayetteville last year, but that Arkansas team was WAY down in the dumps.  Reinvigorated in 2013 with a new head coach, I’m calling for the Razorbacks to pull off the win in a close contest.  Be sure to check out Rutgers WR Brandon Coleman in this game, who is 6’6″ 220lbs and one of the best WR prospects for the 2014 NFL draft.
0036 Steve Rickmeier: Rutgers is no match for a team that faces SEC powerhouses each week.  Arkansas is my pick to win this one.

Miami

Cincinnati vs. Miami (OH)
Facebook fan favorite to win: Cincinnati

FroeberHead Justin Froeber: I think the Bearcats are too much for Miami to handle. Cincinnati wins and Miami starts the season 0-3.
SamHead Sam Bessey: Welcome to the weekly picks Rho Delta!   The Alpha at Miami recently celebrated the eighth anniversary of its founding, and it has been eight years of progress and excellence.  I foresee sixty minutes of pain and sorrow for the RedHawks on Saturday.  Cincinnati takes care of business.
JonHead Jon Moore: Sadly, my alma mater has arguably the worst college football team in America.  The RedHawks rank LAST in offensive efficiency and 120th in defensive efficiency.  Cincinnati wins by 20+ as the “fire Coach Treadwell” grumblings grow to a roar.
0036 I’m looking for the Bearcats to take home a W.

Stanford

#5 Stanford vs. #23 Arizona State
Facebook fan favorite: Stanford

FroeberHead Justin Froeber: Arizona State got lucky and won last week on a missed call last week against Wisconsin. Their luck runs out this week. Stanford wins.
SamHead Sam Bessey:  The lone top 25 matchup of the day gives us our first real look at the 2013 Stanford Cardinal.  ASU is legit in spite of the crazy ending to the game against Wisconsin last week.  I see a fight on the Farm, but Stanford wins by a touchdown.
JonHead Jon Moore: The last time these two played, Jim Harbaugh and Andrew Luck were on the Cardinal sideline, so there are a lot of unknowns on how competitive they will be.  Stanford appears to lack the firepower to blow out a strong Pac12 foe and the Sun Devils are coming off an exciting win against Wisconsin.  Stanford lets ASU hang around for four quarters and the Sun Devils pull the shocker with a late TD drive to secure the win.
0036 Steve Rickmeier: ASU was lucky to beat Wisconsin, but now they face an opponent ranked even higher. Stanford will win this one.
